CrowdGrader brings peer grading to any classroom: students submit and collaboratively grade their homework.
How CrowdGrader works
The instructors creates assignments, either specifying the class list, or sharing with the students a self-enroll URL. Students can work individually or in groups, and submit their solutions to the assignment. CrowdGrader includes a powerful editor that lets instructors and students write reports, math, code, and more; students can also submit any file type (including zip files) for review.
Once the submission phase is over, students are asked to review a certain number (usually, 5) of submissions by other students. CrowdGrader computes for each student a crowd-grade that depends both on:
the grades received by the student’s submitted solution;
the student's accuracy in grading submissions, and the helpfulness of the reviews provided.
Thus, students have an incentive to be accurate in their grades, and helpful in their reviews.
The instructor can use the crowd-grades as final grades, or as a starting point to assign final grades: the instructor is always in full control.
Students benefit by learning from the solutions submitted by their peers, and from the feedback they receive, which is more detailed than a single teaching assistant or instructor can provide. They also get to practice their review skills, and they can compare their solutions with those submitted by others.
Instructors benefit by being able to involve students in a collaborative learning experience, by being able to easily manage large classes, and by having access to detailed information about the difficulties and issues encountered by the students.
